1. You love the calming effect of the water, sea, and ocean
As a sea witch, you are naturally drawn to work with the power of the sea and ocean. You might live close to the seashore or plan your visits every now and then.
You love to spend time on the beach. Going for long walks by the ocean. Dipping your feet in the salty water and listening to the calming sounds of crashing waves.
You naturally know that water is healing and you try to incorporate this element as much as you can within your practice.
If you could, you would bring most of your witchcraft practice close to the ocean. You like to draw circles and sigils in the sand and ask Ocean for the magical support in your journey.
2. You are a great swimmer
This is not a strict rule, but as a Sea Witch, you are most likely to enjoy swimming and emerging in the water. You like to take long baths, go to the sea, lake or local swimming pool if there is no other option.
If you are lucky enough you probably dip yourself (or at least your feet) in the salty waters of the ocean from time to time. The currents and cold water are energizing and you use them to bring yourself closer to nature.
Even though you’d take every opportunity to go for a swim on a sunny day, you also have huge respect for the Ocean. You don’t mess with its power and don’t get involved in risky situations.
As a Sea witch, you might also enjoy (or wish to try) other water sports such as surfing, diving, or snorkeling. You literally feel like a mermaid in the depths of the water!
3. As a Sea Witch, you respect the ocean as a primordial force
We all came from the water. The long evolution process took us out from the oceans and dropped into the land in search of a different way of living.
As a Sea Witch, you understand the deep and old connection of humankind to the ocean. You know that all life emerged from this deep blue water and continued to evolve on the ground.
The Ocean is our foremother, with its deep, nurturing, and healing energy. It is the origin of all existence and should be treated with respect.
You might even want to dedicate your altar to the natural connection with the Ocean. Place all your sea gifts there and keep a glass of salty water collected from your favorite place. It is important for you to nurture this magical relationship with the deep waters and give thanks for this everlasting connection.
4. You have a huge interest in (mystical) sea creatures
Have you ever wished that you could be a mermaid as a kid?
Do you find yourself fascinated by the mysterious creatures of the Ocean?
Does your book collection have some tomes about the sea myths?
For a sea Witch, the answer for at least one of these questions would be positive. You might like getting to know all the information out there on the lives of mermaids. Or maybe stories about Poseidon, Kraken, or other creatures of the underwater world.
Maybe you are fascinated by the lost land of Atlantida or the extraordinary life of dolphins.
Whatever it is, the Ocean world is extra fascinating to you and you wish to learn everything about its mysteries. Check out the attached list of recommended books for Sea Witches at the end of this article to find some extra positions for your bookshelf!
5. As a Sea Witch, you have a big collection of gifts from the water
Do you like collecting seashells and pebbles on the beach? Have you found yourself picking up some driftwood and making decorations with it? Does your altar have any hag stones that the ocean gifted you?
There are many witchcraft tools that you can find on the beach and they all have various magical meanings.
Shells – long and spiral represent gods, oval and circular – goddesses. They can be used as a protective circle. Shells also help with magical workings for fertility and attracting money.
Driftwood can be carried as a talisman or used for making a wand.
Hag stones (with the natural hole through them) can be hung at home for protection or carried on the neck. It is said that by looking through the hole you can see the mystical sea creatures. Hag stones are used for healing. They symbolize eternity and the divine feminine.
Algae – have been traditionally used for protecting the home from fires.
You can also add the following items to your Sea Witch altar: sea glass, sand from your favorite beach, crab claws, shark teeth, and pearls.
6. You use the waves in your magical practice
Water is associated with emotions, inner flow, cleansing, transformation, and change.
As a Sea Witch, you might find yourself harnessing the power of the waves in many ways. You might for example use it as a cleansing tool for yourself or your magical objects (such as crystals).
Waves can be also a tool that helps you with meditation and induce the trans-state. It is highly beneficial to do the magic work with this natural, rhythmic sound in the background. And it definitely enhances the power of rituals.
There is a lot of power that lies within the sea and being a Sea Witch you definitely know about that. You might use the ocean water for grounding. The negative ions neutralize free radicals and bring the body in balance with nature energy. This practice increases serotonin, relieves stress and depression, as well as boosts energy levels.
You naturally feel drawn to the Ocean, when you need some emotional cleansing or simply wish to empty your mind of all the clutter.
7. You like to work with the water element
Out of all five elements, water is your best ally. You are naturally drawn to all the bodies of water and long baths! You find it especially mesmerizing to look at the Ocean and spend as much time as you can on the beach.
As a Sea Witch, you appreciate water for all its gifts. You like the cleansing effect it has on you and your body. It is also great for healing any emotional wounds and charging when you feel low.
There is nothing more refreshing than a warm shower, long bath, or a swim in a lake or a sea. You are very thankful for all the magical attributes of the water and it is a big part of your practice.
You possibly keep some jars of ocean water and use them in your spells regularly You might use them for blessings, charging and cleansing. Or even adding a bit to your bath to really connect to this natural, flowing element.
8. You love meditating to the sound of the Ocean
There is nothing more calming for a sea witch than the sound of the waves crashing on the shore. You definitely have your favorite place where you like to go and sit to simply listen to nature.
This deep connection with healing water and the rhythm that the ocean provides gives you a sense of peace and tranquility. There is no coincidence that magic practitioners have been using the power of the sea in their rituals and have held ceremonies on the beaches for centuries.
The sound of the sea is a deeply nourishing experience that can induce a trance state. Many people use it in their meditation and there is no surprise why there are so many meditation music tracks with the sound of the crashing waves in the background!
9. You use a lot of salt in magic
Seas have been a great supply of salt for centuries. If you are a practicing Sea Witch, you know the importance of salt in magic. It is used in almost any spell jar and can also protect your working space.
Salt has great cleansing and preservative properties. It can be used to remove negative energies from objects and be added to baths for purification purposes.
In ancient Rome, the allowance of salt was called salarium and is connected to today’s word salary. Salt also has been known as a symbol of wisdom, insight, and understanding.
Some Sea Witches might want to extract their own sea salt from their favorite places. All you need to do is to collect some seawater from a clean beach and boil until all you have left in the pot is salty paste. Then you leave it to dry further. Be careful not to burn out your salt!
10. Just like the sea, you are also connected to the moon cycle
Moon has a big impact on the ocean currents. It influences the tides as well as all marine life. There is no coincidence that Moon is connected to the women’s menstrual cycle and represents the feminine aspects.
As a Sea witch, you possibly take note of the Moon Phases. You might like to focus your abundance and growth magic during the waxing moon and focus on letting go when the moon is waning.
And there is nothing more beautiful than celebrating Full Moon on the beach, with the sound of crashing waves and the soft sand underneath the feet.
11. You know about the water memory
Being a Sea Witch, you probably have heard about dr. Masaru Emoto studies frozen water particles. Depending on what words the water has been influenced with, the shape of its particles was either harmonious and symmetric or totally disturbed.
The words you speak to the water have a great power to influence your manifestation. You can also use this technique with preparing a blessing or intentional water. Similar principles apply to the Moon Water.
Water gets highly influenced by various energies and easily absorbs vibrations from the environment. This wonderful knowledge can be utilized for witchcraft and other holistic healing practices and is definitely a great thing to research more about.
